About the Society

The Oxford Operatic Society is a friendly amateur society with over 70 full members. We perform regularly at both the New Theatre and Oxford Playhouse.

We are fortunate to have the use of the St Clement's Family Centre in Oxford where we rehearse every Thursday and, as show week approaches, Tuesdays and some Sundays. For each show we invite a different director and musical director although we are lucky enough to have a small pool of directors and musical directors we work with on a regular basis. Each show attracts different members of the society to take part and we generally have about 40-50 members in a production at any one time, with many others helping behind the scenes.

The society also has a smaller group of associate members who are usually busy behind the scenes and have given us much valued assistance and support over the years.

We work hard during rehearsals and during show week but at the same time we have a lot of fun. If you are interested in joining the society, becoming a patron or sponsor, directing for us or helping backstage you will find more information here. We look forward to hearing from you.
